Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis.It is the contiguous which hampers the smooth functioning of lungs.

Tuberculosis generally affects the lungs, but can also affect other parts of the body. Most infections do not have symptoms, in which case it is known as latent tuberculosis. About 10% of latent infections progress to active disease which, if left untreated, kills about half of those infected.

Getting Good Nutrition and maintaining good diet habits helps to beat tuberculosis

  • Eat Leafy, dark-colored greens like kale and spinach, for their high iron and B-vitamin content
  • Use unsaturated food like vegetable oil or olive oils
  • Take plenty of whole grains, like whole wheat pastas, breads, and cereals
  • Antioxidant-rich, brightly-colored vegetables, such as carrots, peppers, and squash, and fruits, like tomatoes, blueberries, and cherries will helps you in beat tuberculosis
  • Eat selenium and zinc rich food  like Mushrooms and most nuts and seeds including sunflower seeds, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, sesame, flax are also good sources of both selenium and zinc.
  • Some of the best foods for TB patients include the yellow orange fruits and vegetables such as orange, mango, papaya, sweet pumpkin, carrots which are rich in Vitamin A, while Vitamin C is obtained from fresh fruits including guava, amla, orange, tomato, sweet lime, lemon, capsicum.

Things to Avoided When You Have Active Tuberculosis

  • Skip tobacco in all forms.
  • Avoid drinking alcohol
  • Limit the coffee and other caffeine drinks
  • Limit refined products, like sugar, white breads, and white rice.
  • Avoid high-fat, high-cholesterol red meat
