Home remedies for Bronchial Asthma

Asthma is a common long-term inflammatory disease of the airways of the lungs that affects the air passages that carry air from the nasal area and mouth to lungs and vice versa. This chronic disease of the lungs has the main symptom that narrows the airways and inflames the lungs. Asthma is also one of the incurable diseases. It may occur in people from 2 years to old age. Airways become swollen during asthma, muscles around them get tightened, which causes less air to flow to lungs. When asthma symptoms become worse than usual, it is called an asthma attack.

Causes of asthma

  • Allergies
  • Smoke and tobacco
  • Air pollution
  • Obesity
  • Stress & depression
  • Genetics
  • Premature birth
  • Heartburn
  • Inflammation
  • Bronchoconstriction
  • Infection flu-common cold

Symptoms

  • Difficulty in breathing (especially early in the morning)
  • Whistling sound in breathing
  • Chest tightness
  • Coughing
  • Feeling tired while doing any physical activity
  • Uneasiness in sleep.

Treatment for asthma: As is an incurable disease there are two types of treatments for asthma.

  1. Quick of relief medicine to stop asthma symptoms
  2. Long-term control medicines to prevent symptoms.

Some home remedies for asthma;

Ginger: Ginger tea is an excellent alternative to relieve asthma naturally, It has bronchodilator component that helps you breathe better. That effect is because it inhibits an enzyme that causes the contradiction of the muscles of the airways and at the same time causes another enzyme that serves to relax the airways.

Onion: Onions contain Thiosulfinates which contains antiasthmatic properties. The onion contains a flavonoid called quercetin which causes it to reduce constriction of the airways and causes the branch to relax.

Garlic: As it contains anti-inflammatory properties it is one of the best  Natural Remedies to eliminate asthma.

Lemon Juice: Mix 1 lemon juice with 1 glass of water which helps in cleaning off germs and bacteria of the respiratory system. Breathing is improved and mucus is prevented from accumulating. Inhaling lemon vapor is also very effective.

Honey: Honey is an inflammatory and a natural expectorant. Take two tablespoons of honey in a cup of water that helps to remove the accumulated mucus in the airways that block the air that can trigger an asthma attack.

Mustard oil: Take some mustard oil and make it warm and mix with camphor. Massage with it all over the chest, till you get relief from asthma.

Fennel seeds: Intake of fennel seeds on daily basis helps to get rid of asthmatic attacks.

Black tea/coffee: Caffeine presents in coffee help to clear air passage, so that intake and exhale of air will be easy.

Some Preventive Measures

  • If you feel sudden congestion, use an inhaler instantly.
  • Stay away from the wood-burning stove or fireplace.
  • Avoid oily fried food
  • Avoid smoking
  • Don’t consume too cold products
  • Always get immunized for pneumonia and influenza, regularly.
