Gallbladder stores bile which has been produced by the liver. Bile is substance the aid in the digestive system. The gallbladder expels bile into the small intestines and mixes along with food.

Most common types of disease with gallbladder are:

Usually, the problem occurs when this bile contains too much cholesterol.If you eat a high-fat diet that contains a lot of cholesterol, there will be more cholesterol in your digestive system than you need. This excess cholesterol accumulates and may cause swelling and inflammation of the gallbladder. The resulting pain is often described as a gallbladder attack.

Gallstone: Gallstone is also called as Cholelithiasis. A hardened deposit within the fluid in the gallbladder, a small organ under the liver.In some cases, cholesterol and other substances in the gallbladder accumulates and hardens into gallstones. Gallstones can be tiny, like a grain of sand. Or they can be huge, like a golf ball.

There are two types of gallstones 1) Cholesterol stones 2) Pigment stones, But in these two Cholesterol stone is too common.

Cholecystitis: Inflammation of the gallbladder, a small digestive organ beneath the liver.

Cholestasis: Any condition in which the flow of bile from the liver stops or slows.

Gallbladder cancerCancer that develops in the gallbladder, a small organ below the liver.

Signs and Symptoms of Gallstone or Cholelithiasis: There will be no peculiar signs and symptoms for gall stone. If gallstone causes blockage in duct following signs and symptoms can be seen.

  • Intensifying pain in the upper right portion of your abdomen (Gallstone pain persists for several minutes to few hours)
  • Intensifying pain in the center of your abdomen, just below your breastbone
  • Back pain between your shoulder blades
  • Pain in your right shoulder
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Indigestion
  • Fatty/greasy stool
  • Chronic gas & Bloating
  • Itchy skin
  • Yellowing of the Skin (Jaundice)
  • A headache and migraines
  • Dry skin & hair
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Light-colored stools
  • Weight loss resistance
  • Skin Rashes
  • Loss of Hunger

Note: gallstone symptoms are similar to heart disease, appendicitis, ulcers etc, irritable bowel syndrome.,

We cannot see any symptoms in some people with gallstones. These patients are said to asymptomatic and these stones are called ‘silent stones’. They are not needed to be treated in such cases because they will not interfere in the function of gallbladder, pancreas or liver.

When to consult a doctor

  • Abdominal pain so intense that you can’t sit still or find a comfortable position
  • High fever with chills
  • Yellowing of your skin and the whites of your eyes

Causes of Gallstone:

Causes of gallstone are also uncertain.

  • Depends on the functioning of Liver.
  • Biliary tract infection
  • Sickle cell anemia it is hereditary blood disorders.
  • bile contains too much bilirubin
  • bile contains too much cholesterol

The people with high risk of developing gallstones may be

  • Women
  • People over the age of 60
  • Overweighted men and women
  • People who fast
  • People who lose their weight very quickly
  • Pregnant women
  • Women on hormone therapy
  • Women who use birth control pills
  • Persons with Obesity
  • Having a family history of gallstones
  • Having diabetes
  • Having liver disease

Drugs that lower cholesterol levels in blood actually increase the amount of cholesterol secreted in bile. This, in turn, can increase the risk of gallstones.

People with diabetes generally have high levels of fatty acids called triglycerides. These fatty acids increase the risk of gallstones.

Diagnosis: ERCP, HIDA Scan, Ultrasound are the methods used in diagnosing the Gallstone.

Treatment: Surgery to remove the gallbladder is the most common way to treat Symptomatic Gallstone.

The luckiest thing is that people can live without a gallbladder. There is no need of any change in the diet if one lose their gallbladder. Once the gallbladder is removed. Bile flows out of the liver through the hepatic ducts into the common bile duct and goes directly into the small intestine, instead of being stored in galls bladder.

Food that helps in keeping gall bladder health are Tomatoes, apples, Cherries, Lemons, Blackberries, Watercress, Blueberries, Kale, Radishes, Grapefruits, Limes, Celery, Broccoli, Pears etc,

Remedy 1


  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Apple juie

How to prepare and use

Take one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass of apple juice and mix both the ingredients well and drink it. Dosage

  • Drink it whenever you have a gallstone attack.

Remedy 2


  • Lemon juice
  • Warm warm

How to prepare and use

Take a lemon and cut it in to two half and collect 4 table spoons of lemon juice and add it glass of warm water and mix it and drink it  on an empty stomach.


  • Drink it every day til gallstones eliminated from the body.

  • psyllium powder
  • Water

How to prepare and use

Add one tablespoon of psyllium powder to a glass of water. Mix well and drink it
