Home remedies for Restless legs syndrome

Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a unpleasant feeling in the leg which causes a strong urge to move one’s legs due disorder of the part of the nervous system. It is also considered as sleep disorder as it usually interferes with sleep. As it occurs mainly in the night sleep consequences related restless legs syndrome are day time sleepiness, low energy, irritability, and depressed mood.


  • RLS is often due to iron deficiency
  • And some other conditions like
    • varicose vein or venous reflux, folate deficiency, magnesium deficiency, fibromyalgia, sleep apnea, uremia, diabetes, thyroid disease, peripheral neuropathy, Parkinson’s disease, POTS,
  • Autoimmune diseases such as Sjögren’s syndrome, celiac disease, and rheumatoid arthritis are also responsible for RLS
  • RLS is more worsen in pregnancy.

Signs and symptoms

  • An urge to move, usually due to uncomfortable sensations that occur primarily in the legs, but occasionally in the arms or elsewhere.
  • an uncomfortable, “itchy,” “pins and needles,” or “creepy crawly” feeling in the legs.

Risk factors 

  • low iron levels,
  • kidney failure,
  • Parkinson’s disease,
  • Diabetes mellitus ,
  • rheumatoid arthritis,
  • pregnancy.


  • There is no particular medical diagnosis for RLS, but it only diagnosed only based on the symptoms of the patient and medical history. Some blood tests and other exams are done to rule out other conditions.

Home remedies for Restless Leg syndrome

Remedy 1


  • Virgin oil

How to make and use

  • Take virgin oil and heat it lightly and massage your legs in different directions. As massaging is effective treatment for RLS and gives you relief from pain and irritation.

Remedy 2


  • Apple cider vinegar

How to make and use

  • Take 2 table spoons of apple cider vinegar and mix it with a glass of warm water and drink it in small sips.

Remedy 3


  • Hot and cold water

How to make and use

  • Take two tubs of water in one tub take hot water (hot water up to bearable extend) and in another tub with cold water. now soak your legs in the tub of hot water and after that soak your legs in tub of cold water, this remedy will be more effective for RLS treatment.


  • Repeat this remedy for several times for a few weeks.

And some other health tips regarding RLS are

  • Good sleep habits
  • A vibrating pad called Relaxis
  • Hot baths or heating pads or ice packs applied to the legs
  • do regular exercise
  • decrease the use of caffeine
  • decrease or avoid the use of alcohol and tobacco.
